Marketing
Marketing is a business area that's built on passion. It's about passion for the consumer. Passion for knowing what consumers think on a daily basis. And passion for developing the simplest solutions to match.
In an international FMCG company, each country will have its own brand portfolio. This marketing portfolio will contain smaller local brands that are managed directly, whilst key global brands are usually handled by a global marketing team. It means that local and global marketing teams work very closely together to ensure consistent marketing activity and an international view on everything they do.
Inside this environment, your work can include everything from developing above-the-line campaigns and creating the innovation pipeline to working with consumers' groups, maximising international brand equity and sharing learning across the globe.
Example role: Assistant Brand Manager
If FMCG is fast, FMCG brand management is supersonic. This is the place where brand plans are born and marketing activity is delivered. So, as you can imagine, it's an ever changing environment.
As an Assistant Brand Manager with any of the big FMCG companies, it will be your role to provide brand marketing support to a specific team. You'll learn to track brand health and carry out market analysis. You'll become an expert on in-store activation and market-spend tracking. Plus you'll discover all there is to know about high impact packaging, design and PR activity.
In short, you'll learn everything you need to become an expert in brand marketing. But, as well as being fast, brand management within the FMCG industry is a very competitive place. So you'll need more than relevant experience to succeed. Across the sector, the best senior brand managers all have key characteristics in common: a passion for achievement, a drive to make things happen and a real pride in their work. Get it right, and you could join them in as little as three years.
